How it works, concretely

Outbound retailer links on this site carry our Amazon Associates tracking tag (blueblockrevi-20). If you click one and buy something within the retailer's attribution window, they pay us a percentage of the sale. The price you pay is the same either way — the commission comes out of the retailer's margin.

Every commercial link on this site is marked with rel="sponsored", and any block of retailer links carries a disclosure immediately above it rather than only in the footer.

The conflict of interest, stated honestly

Affiliate sites usually claim at this point that they earn the same commission on every product, so they have no reason to steer you toward expensive ones. That is not accurate. Amazon commissions are a percentage of the sale price, which means a more expensive product pays us more. We also earn nothing at all if you decide not to buy.

So the incentive is real, and it points toward telling you to buy, and to buy something expensive. We manage it by writing against it where the evidence supports doing so, and you can check that on the selling pages themselves: our homepage and our buying guide both carry the finding that these lenses probably do not reduce eye strain, our standing advice is to spend on the frame rather than the filter, and several pages recommend an eye exam over any purchase at all.

That is a check you can verify by reading, which is worth more than a promise about our intentions.

What we do not do

• We do not accept payment from manufacturers for coverage, for a favourable review, or for placement in a list.
• We do not accept free products in exchange for a review. If that ever changes, it will be disclosed on the page in question, not here.
• We do not run sponsored posts written by or approved by a brand.
• We do not adjust a conclusion because a product pays a better commission rate.

Advertising

This site may display advertising served by third parties, including Google. Those advertisers select what to show based on their own systems, and we have no editorial control over the ads and no relationship with the advertisers. Ads are not endorsements, and nothing about them affects our writing.

If you would rather not contribute

That is a completely reasonable choice, and it costs you nothing to act on. Note the product name from our pages and search for it directly at the retailer, or buy from a local optician instead. The information here is the same either way, and none of it is gated.
