Why the colour is the information
You cannot remove a large share of one region of the visible spectrum and end up with a lens that still renders colour neutrally. If blue is substantially attenuated and red and green are not, what reaches your eye is warmer — that is what a colour cast is. So a lens that looks clear is telling you, honestly and unavoidably, that not much is being removed.
This is worth holding onto because it cuts through the marketing. A listing claiming heavy filtering and zero colour distortion is describing something the optics do not permit. Usually the resolution is that the high percentage applies to a narrow band near the violet end of the spectrum, where screens emit relatively little and where the circadian system is not especially sensitive. Choosing clear
There is one strong argument for a clear lens: you can wear it all day without anyone noticing and without colour work becoming impossible. That is a real practical advantage, and if you have decided to buy a pair for daytime screen use, this is the right category.
What we would push back on is paying much for it. Since the filtering is both minimal and — per the pooled trial evidence — not established as helping eye strain, a clear-lens pair is essentially a frame. Price it as one.
Choosing amber
Amber is the right choice if you want to test whether reducing evening short-wavelength light does anything for you. The trials that reported sleep effects used lenses of this type; running the experiment with a near-clear lens is not a fair test of the hypothesis.
The costs are real and immediate. Colour judgement is out. Video calls are out. Deep orange lenses in particular make photographs, design work and anything with colour-coded information genuinely difficult. Treat them as evening-only equipment rather than glasses.

What neither lens addresses
Both leave the room lit. Light entering around the sides of a frame is unfiltered, and the ceiling light, the lamp and the television are all still contributing. If the evening-light hypothesis is what interests you, dimming the room is a bigger lever than either lens, and it is free.
